Who we are
H5P Translate is a web application that translates H5P interactive content files (with extension .h5p) into different languages using AI tools. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your data.
Data we collect
We collect the following information when you use our service:
- Account information: Email address and password (stored as a secure hash, never in plain text)
- Transaction history: Records of credit purchases and usage
- Translation job metadata: Original filenames, target language, timestamps, and character counts
How we use your data
- Account management: To create and maintain your account, authenticate you, and communicate with you about your account
- Processing translations: To translate your H5P files into the requested language
- Payment processing: To process credit purchases through our payment provider
File handling
We take your file and content privacy seriously:
- Uploaded H5P files are processed and then deleted from our servers, with no human interaction or any kind of storing.
- Translated output files are automatically deleted after a pre-defined short amount of time, as communicated to the user during the translation process.
- Only metadata about translation jobs (filenames, language, timestamps) is retained — not the file contents themselves
Third-party services
We use the following third-party services to operate H5P Translate:
- Stripe — Payment processing. Stripe receives your email address to process payments. See Stripe's privacy policy.
- DeepL — Translation. The text content of your H5P files is sent to DeepL for translation. See DeepL's privacy policy.
Cookies
We use only essential cookies required for the site to function:
- Session cookie: Keeps you logged in during your visit
- CSRF cookie: Protects against cross-site request forgery attacks
We do not use tracking cookies, analytics cookies, or any third-party advertising cookies.
Data retention
- Account data: Retained until you delete your account
- File content: Maximum 1 hour, then automatically deleted
- Translation job metadata: Retained indefinitely for your translation history
- Transaction records: Retained indefinitely for accounting purposes
Security
We protect your data with industry-standard security measures including:
- HTTPS encryption for all connections
- Secure, HTTP-only cookies
- HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS)
- Passwords stored using secure hashing algorithms
